Our Mission
The Limuless Story
The Limuless story began at Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Alabama, where CEO Jennifer Watson first encountered horseshoe crabs in Neuroscience 101 in graduate school. Fascinated by these creatures, she was inspired by a book lent to her by a teaching assistant, sparking an idea to eliminate the need for horseshoe crab blood in testing.
In 2016, Jennifer and co-founder Richard Hatcher took a leap to bring this idea to life. They moved to Nashville, where they transformed Jennifer’s great-grandmother’s attic into a molecular biology lab, and it was there that Jennifer successfully built the first protein of the LAL cascade, marking the beginning of Limuless.

While there are recombinant alternatives to the horseshoe crab-derived LAL test on the market, the cost per assay is similar and it requires technical expertise to perform. We leverage a unique bacterial recombinant platform to exponentially grow the essential components of the LAL cascade, allowing for highly efficient production. This innovation not only enhances the accuracy of our testing but also significantly reduces production costs, making it a more accessible and eco-friendly solution for the industry.
